'The Way To Go'

Armchair & Rocket

The 'The Way To Go' TV Commercial for DfE Vocational Qualifications was produced by Armchair & Rocket for Navigator Blue. The commercial was produced using In-Camera-Visual-Effects (ICVFX) making it the first of its kind shot in Northern Ireland.

Aura was involved in this project as a Virtual Production vendor for pre-visualisation (Pre-vis), technical visualisation (tech-vis) and virtual art department (VAD).

The production was a single shot, involving high-speed costume/environment transitions. This required innovative techniques and tight choreography between Brain-Bar, Talent and the Camera and Lighting team.

Client Brief

Our client came to us hoping to create a shot-in-one-take commercial for the Department of Education's 'Way to Go' campaign. They intended to showcase several situations a student in a vocational course could find themself in after graduating. The commercial was to be 30 seconds in length, span multiple environments sequentially and have a 'give away' gag at the end that showcased the technology used.

Outcome

We put together an environment that rotated around the actors that comprised 5 different environments. Because the animation could be played in Unreal Engine in real time, all of the actors were able to reherse their movements to exact timings. This helped us pull off the single take with more fluidity.
