'Body By Gygax: A Fitness Quest' is a mobile fitness app for iOS and Android that blends the spirit of classic fantasy tabletop roleplaying games with real-world physical workouts. Co-created by Luke Gygax, Tommy Rice, and Dimitri Del Castillo, the app was officially unveiled during a demo showcase at GenCon 2025.

Designed to motivate users through gamified fitness mechanics, the app features workout-triggered combat encounters, cooldown mini-games, RPG-style stat tracking, and character customisation, all wrapped in a nostalgic, retro-fantasy aesthetic.

The Brief

We were commissioned to design and develop a prototype app to demonstrate the concept and feature set, helping the creators secure further funding and support.

Key requirements included:

• A retro-inspired visual style evocative of early fantasy RPGs

• Customisable D&D-style character classes

• Workout-driven auto-battler combat

• A cooldown mini-game inspired by infinite runners

• A framework for displaying live fitness metrics on a character sheet

Our Role

Using Unreal Engine, we delivered a functional cross-platform prototype on iOS and Android, ready in time for the GenCon showcase. In addition to app development, we supported the launch with logo animation, gameplay capture, trailer editing and technical consultation.
